AI-Starter 3.1.7 has been released. This update adds support for the latest models, including Claude Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, Haiku 5.5, and GPT-6.1 Sol. It also adds web search for GPT models on Bedrock and support for PPTX file attachments.

Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Haiku 5.5 are available through Japan cross-region inference (jp. prefix). Claude Sonnet 5.5 is available through Global cross-region inference (global. prefix).
Web Search for GPT Models on Bedrock
Web search is now available for OpenAI GPT models on Amazon Bedrock that use the bedrock-mantle endpoint. Searches use a tool hosted by AWS. A new default assistant, "Bedrock GPT-6 Luna WebSearch", has been added.
A new platform metadata type, BedrockOpenAIResponse, has also been added. Besides reasoning settings and enabling web search, the "Enable external web access" option controls whether external websites can be accessed when the cache has no suitable content. It is disabled by default, so only indexes and caches within AWS are used. When external web access is enabled, request data may leave the AWS boundary. PPTX File Attachments
PowerPoint (PPTX) files can now be attached in chat. A new "Presentation file (PPTX) acceptance" setting has been added to the StorageFiles grounding.
This setting takes effect for assistants on the OpenAI platform that use the Response API (platform metadata OpenAIResponse). Among the default assistants, it is enabled for GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna (direct OpenAI integration). It is disabled for all other default assistants.
Updated Claude Agent Template Assistants
The template assistants for tool calling have been updated as follows. Duplicate them and configure the tools you need before using them.

The assistant to duplicate when using the Knowledge Base search tool has also changed from Claude Sonnet 4.6 Thinking with Tool to Claude Agent JP. For the steps, see Knowledge Base.
Features Requiring an Infrastructure Update
Some features in this release are not available through the application update alone. To enable the following, a separate infrastructure update is required.
- Bedrock GPT-6 Luna WebSearch (additional IAM permissions required for Bedrock web search)
- Storage bucket versioning (see Improvements below)

Improvements
Fixed Chats Becoming Unresponsive When Using Code Interpreter
Repeated use of Code Interpreter (Bedrock AgentCore) for code execution or file analysis could leave server-side connections open. Depending on usage, later requests could then stop responding for up to about 15 minutes. Connections are now reliably released, and a timeout has been added for each operation.
Enabled Versioning for the Storage Bucket
Versioning is now enabled for the storage bucket that holds attachments and other files. This makes it easier to recover files that were deleted or overwritten by mistake. Previous versions are deleted automatically after 30 days.
This setting is part of the infrastructure template, so a separate infrastructure update is required to apply it.
Improved Account Menu
The account menu in the sidebar now lets you switch the theme and language directly within the menu. You no longer need to open a submenu, so switching is quicker.
Upgraded UI Components
The UI components that make up the screens have been upgraded. The layout of the main screens is unchanged, but some visuals and interactions may differ slightly. Dependency packages have also been updated to strengthen security.

The following models have been removed from the default assistant list. They still work in existing assistant configurations, but may stop working in a future update. We recommend migrating to their successors. For the current list of supported models, see Models.

Removed Kendra Retrieval
The Kendra Retrieval grounding (Amazon Kendra integration), previously marked as deprecated, has been removed in this release. The "Kendra Retrieval" default usecase assistant and its related default prompts have also been removed. Assistants configured with Kendra Retrieval will stop working after the update. Please migrate to an approach based on Bedrock knowledge bases. For details, see Knowledge Base.
Cleaned Up Default Prompts and System Prompt Templates
In light of the capabilities of today's AI models, the default prompts and system prompt templates have been streamlined. If there is content you use often, save it as a custom template in your personal settings. For details, see Account.
