AI-Starter 3.1.6
Last updated: September 17, 2026
AI-Starter 3.1.6 has been released. This update adds support for the latest models, including Grok and GPT-6 Astra served through Bedrock. It also adds agent capabilities (tool calling) for Claude Sonnet 5.
New Features
New Model Support
The following latest models are now available. For a full list of supported models, see Models.
| Provider | Models |
|---|---|
| Amazon Bedrock (OpenAI / xAI models served via Bedrock) | Bedrock GPT-6 Astra, Bedrock Grok 4.6 |
| OpenAI | GPT Image 2.5 Flare, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst |
GPT-6 Astra served through Bedrock handles data differently than other Bedrock models. Please review the notice in the assistant's description before enabling it.
In addition, the calling method for the existing Bedrock GPT-5.6 Sol / Terra / Terra Thinking / Luna assistants has changed. They now call the model through the bedrock-runtime endpoint (OpenAI-compatible API). This enables Global cross-region inference, improving availability and reducing cost.
Features Requiring an Infrastructure Update
Some features in this release are not available through the application update alone. To enable the following, a separate infrastructure update is required.
- Bedrock GPT-6 Astra, Bedrock Grok 4.6
- Bedrock GPT-5.6 Sol / Terra / Terra Thinking / Luna (additional IAM permissions required for calls through the bedrock-runtime endpoint)
For instructions on updating the CloudFormation stack, see Update. Your account representative may provide the template or guide you through the update.
Added the Claude Agent Template Assistant
A new "Claude Agent (recommended to duplicate)" assistant has been added to the default assistant list. It is built on Claude Sonnet 5 and intended for tool-calling use cases. It uses the same Global cross-region inference profile as Claude Sonnet 5 (global.anthropic.claude-sonnet-5). Duplicate it and configure the tools you need before using it.
Added Agent Capabilities (Tool Calling) for Claude Sonnet 5
The latest Claude models do not support Bedrock's strict mode (structured output enforcement). Because of this, tool calling could fail on Claude Sonnet 5 assistants that use tools such as MCP. That option has been removed in this release. Claude Sonnet 5 now properly supports agent-style tool calling.
Improvements
Improved Source URL Display in Knowledge Base Search Results
Source URLs returned by knowledge base searches, such as Bedrock knowledge bases or Azure AI Search, sometimes contained parentheses, spaces, or non-ASCII characters. In that case, the link shown in chat could be truncated. Source URLs are now normalized to fix this issue.
Improved Navigation for Users with Only Usecase Assistants
Users who had no chat assistants available (assistants without a prompt configured) could be unexpectedly redirected to the home screen after signing in. Users who only have access to usecase assistants now stay on the current screen instead. The "New Chat" item in the sidebar is now hidden for these users as well.
Changes and Deprecations
Model Replacements
The following models have been removed from the default assistant list. They still work in existing assistant configurations, but may stop working in a future update. We recommend migrating to their successors. For the current list of supported models, see Models.
| Deprecated Model | Migrate To |
|---|---|
| GPT Image 2, Azure GPT Image 2 | GPT Image 2.5 Flare / GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst |
