File Attachment

You can attach files to chat messages and ask the AI to analyze or process them. Supported file formats and sizes vary by assistant.

Attachment Methods

Files can be attached in three ways:

  • Attachment Button: Click the clip icon in the message input field to select files. Multiple files can be selected at once.
  • Drag & Drop: Drag and drop files onto the chat input area.
  • Paste: Paste images or files copied to the clipboard into the input field.

Attached files are previewed above the input field. Images show thumbnails, while other files display the filename. Click the × button before sending to remove an attachment.

Supported File Formats

TypeFormat
TextTXT, JSON, XML, YAML, Markdown, HTML, CSV, etc.
ImageJPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP
DocumentPDF, Word (.docx)
SpreadsheetExcel (.xlsx)

Note

Supported file formats vary by assistant. An error message is displayed if you select an unsupported file.

File Size Limits

Default file size limits are determined by the platform an assistant uses.

AWS (Bedrock)10 MB3.75 MB4.5 MB4.5 MB
OpenAI50 MB20 MB50 MB50 MB
GCP (Vertex AI)50 MB7 MB50 MB
Azure OpenAI512 MB20 MB512 MB

Note

  • When an administrator configures custom size limits or a per-message attachment count for an assistant, those values take precedence.
  • Depending on the model and provider API specifications (such as the context window), the effective limit may be smaller than the values shown above.

Model Support

File attachment support varies by model.

Gemini (all models)
GPT (Response API)
Azure OpenAI

About △

Amazon Nova supports reading documents and spreadsheets, but may not read the content correctly, resulting in hallucinations (factually incorrect responses). For use cases requiring accuracy, we recommend using Claude or similar models.

Attached File Display

Sent files are displayed within the message.

  • Images: Displayed inline within the message.
  • Other files: The filename is displayed.
